Arruda's Basketball Club

Arruda’s Basketball Club was started by Josh Arruda in August of 2022. This is also when he began his time as graduate assistant for the Marymount Men’s Basketball team. Coach Arruda was leading individual and group training sessions, developing players skills. Due to Coach Arruda’s basketball knowledge and exceptional teaching ability, kids thoroughly enjoyed their training sessions, even when fighting through the rain.

As word spread and demand grew, Coach Arruda enlisted the help of
the Marymount basketball players to lead sessions. Training sessions
were a great opportunity for the Marymount players to get work experience,
share their love of the game and develop as leaders and mentors.  During
his final semester working towards his MBA, Coach Arruda coached a 5th
grade boys AAU team. To prepare himself for his goal of one day being a
college head coach, he coached the season with the same purpose
and attention to detail that he would a college team.

Families loved the season. When parents discovered that Coach Arruda was not being paid to coach the team, they advised him to start teams under his own brand, which would include coaching costs.

Fall 2024 was the first season of ABC teams. There were four boys teams, a 4th grade, 5th grade and two 6th grade teams, all
competing in the ShotsUp Fall League. It was a fun season and a
great learning experience for the players, coaches, and ABC.

After the fall, ABC teams rolled into the winter season with a 5th grade
team and two 6th grade teams. The winter was led by Coach Luke Moritz,
assisted by an awesome staff of Marymount players. The program continued to establish itself and further develop it’s identity. Under
the tutelage of Coach Arruda, Luke assumed more responsibility
running the administrative side of the program.

Families clearly enjoyed their experience in the fall & winter, as demand
for the spring season skyrocketed. Over 200 players registered for spring tryouts. When debating whether to accommodate for all of the demand,
Luke and Arruda agreed that the increased demand was a blessing,
challenge, and an opportunity to learn and improve.

There were 15 ABC teams in the spring of 2025 competing in ShotsUp and St. James tournaments. The youngest age representing ABC was 3rd grade, and the program was led by two 15u teams. The season was another great learning experience for families and ABC. It introduced a lot of kids to AAU basketball, educated parents, and provided a great litmus test for each child’s attitude and goals. Shoutout to our 6th grade Claws team who won the St. James Survivor Showdown.

ABC has hosted basketball and general sports camp on off days for the past couple years. We had
two energy filled weeks of Summer Camp in 2025
and hope to build on that this coming summer!

In addition to middle school teams and elementary school practices, ABC 3v3 leagues began this past fall. 3v3 league practices follow a skill development focused practice plan, very similar to the teams. 15 minute FIBA Style 3v3 games conclude each practice. 3v3 helps players develop more quickly as they are always involved in the action. Coaches ref the games, keep score and track the results in a standings. The season concludes with playoffs & a championship.

The 3rd & 4th grade winter teams have been improving each practice & the two 3v3 leagues have been an awesome opportunity for those who missed the cut of travel teams.

We are preparing for a new and improved spring season.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and been a part of this
incredibly journey!

Our logos come from Josh Arruda’s mantra, Festina Lente. This mantra dates back to Ancient Rome and was later printed on coins during the Renaissance. Festina Lente was an adage used to emphasize the balance between speed and caution. One translation of Festina Lente is to “Make haste slowly.”

This has been deeply tied to Josh Arruda’s life. He and his father go crabbing on their annual trip to the beach.
His mother embodies the spirit of a butterfly, a teacher encouraging others to evolve and grow.

The crab reminds us to move slowly and with purpose, while the butterfly represents haste and constant motion, illustrating that development is strongest when speed is guided by control.

With our focus on player development, Festina Lente perfectly describes ABC’s approach. We believe that true growth comes from balancing urgency with patience.  Encouraging hard work and maximum effort at every practice, while reminding kids of the patience required to properly foster and realize improvements.
