ABC TEAMS
ABC Teams are for competitive basketball players who are committed to improving their skills, competing at a high level and being a good teammate.
AAU basketball tournaments and leagues are intense. Games can range from 8am to 9pm in various locations, competing against players & coaches with college and/or professional aspirations.
In order to compete at this level, players must have a serious approach towards basketball. The amount of work dedicated to basketball has to meet a certain standard to justify the time and energy for families and coaches.
If you are interested in a competitive basketball experience, but the AAU level might not be the right fit, no problem. Please read more about our 3v3 Leagues here!
Our teams are coached with a focus on long term skill development. Too much of AAU basketball is focused on teams winning games in the present. While we are always trying to compete, the goal is for players to be at their best at 17 and 18 years old.
We measure our success by how our players perform in their CYO, Travel, Middle and High School winter seasons, not by how many spring and fall games and tournaments we win.
Full court press, zone defense and heavily rehearsed offensive plays are three strategies that many teams utilize to win games, neglecting the development of their players.
We develop well rounded basketball players who can adjust to whatever systems their winter coaches give them. Spending time memorizing your AAU team’s plays, press and zone intricacies all spring and fall is a waste of time.
At ABC we play half court, aggressive, man to man defense. (Unless losing towards the end of the game). High school and college coaches are looking for players who can guard the ball handler, clearly communicate when off the ball, and correctly rotate in help defense. These skills are neglected when consistently playing zone or full court press.
We develop those skills at practice through tons of live reps and small sided games, implementing Differential Learning and the Constraints Led Approach.
Our staff is learning to adapt modern approaches to skill development. The drills that we design are the teacher, instead of frequently stopping reps to explain.
