SINCE 2022
Building community through positive and competitive basketball experiences.
OUR STORY
Josh Arruda starts ABC in August 2022, the same month he begins his graduate assistantship with Marymount Men's Basketball. He leads individual and group training sessions, and thanks to his basketball knowledge and teaching ability, kids keep coming back, even in the rain.
As word spreads, he enlists Marymount players to help lead sessions and coaches a 5th grade AAU team unpaid, until parents encourage him to start his own program.
Four boys teams (4th grade, 5th grade, and two 6th grade squads) compete in the ShotsUp Fall League. ABC's first real season of teams, and a great learning experience for players, coaches, and the program alike.
ABC rolls into winter with a 5th grade team and two 6th grade teams, led by Coach Luke Moritz and an awesome staff of Marymount players. Under Coach Arruda's tutelage, Luke takes on more of the program's administrative side.
Demand for spring skyrockets: 140+ players register for tryouts. ABC fields 15 teams from 3rd grade through two 15u squads, competing in ShotsUp and St. James tournaments. Shoutout to the 6th grade Claws, who win the St. James Survivor Showdown.
ABC has hosted sports camp on school off days for the past couple of years, including two energy-filled weeks of Summer Camp in 2025, with plans to build on it every off day since.
3v3 leagues begin alongside ABC's teams and practices: skill-development-focused sessions capped with 15-minute FIBA-style games. Coaches ref, keep score, and track results in a real standings, with the season ending in playoffs and a championship.
Our logo comes from Josh Arruda’s mantra, Festina Lente, an Ancient Roman adage meaning “make haste slowly.” The crab (from his family’s annual crabbing trips) reminds us to move with purpose; the butterfly represents the constant motion of growth.
THE MANTRA
With our focus on player development, Festina Lente perfectly describes ABC’s approach. True growth comes from balancing urgency with patience, encouraging hard work without sacrificing the fundamentals.
