Coach Luke started his coaching journey as a freshman manager for the Temple University Men’s Basketball team. As a manager he got to learn and observe from the coaching staff, which was led by Fran Dunphy and Aaron McKie, two Philadelphia legends, during his time there. As a senior, Luke was named head manager, leading the group of 10 managers.
In the summers of 2021-23, Luke got his first head coaching experience in the Fox Rok Summer League, leading middle school boys teams.
After graduating from Temple, Luke assisted Colin Daly for Philly Pride UAA Select 16u. Seven players from this team have gone on to play in college, including four at the Division II level. The Select team practiced with the National team which was coached by Brandon Williams, 2019 UAA 16U Nation Champion.
Luke’s college basketball experience continued as an assistant for the 2022-23 West Chester University’s Men’s Basketball team, who won a share of the PSAC East regular season title.
After meeting while recruiting for their respective teams in the fall of 2022, Luke joined Coach Arruda and Matt Santoro to coach Philly Pride Bucks 17u. Seven of these players have continued their careers in college.
After enjoying his two years coaching high school AAU, Luke decided that coaching at the high school level would be a nice change of pace. Luke was an assistant for LaSalle College High School, as well as Next Play.
Before the season began, Luke made the difficult decision to step away from the team in order to take care of his personal life and reasses his coaching plans.
A month later, Luke was an assistant for 7th grade girls team at Lower Moreland Middle School, where he was also a building substitute. With much less time and travel required and the team going undefeated, Luke rediscovered his joy of coaching. He was then the head coach for the 7th grade boys team at Lower Moreland MS.
In the spring of 2024, Luke was the head coach of 7th grade team for Philly Revolution, including 3 players from the Lower Moreland squad.
After building a friendship with Coach Arruda over the previous year and a half, Luke decided to move to Arlington on the day Revolution’s season ended.
He was training and coaching for ABC from June 2024 until taking over as Director in March of 2025.
Coach Luke has been the head coach for Yorktown Boys Varsity Fall League team for the past 2 seasons, as well as last year’s spring team which competed in the DeMatha League. (Arlington County rules prohibit anyone on the staff from head coaching off season games.)
Coach Luke is currently an assistant for the Kenmore Middle School Boys & Girls Basketball teams, where he is a building substitute.
Luke has been blessed to work with a list of incredible basketball minds, leaders and players. He has continued to develop his coaching style, taking pieces from each of his stops along the way. His goal is for ABC to provide positive and development focused basketball experiences for kids of varying skill levels in the Arlington area.
